Former Melbourne star Brad Green and Channel 10 sports presenter Caty Price have welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Tommy.
“We love you already so very much,’’ the couple posted to Instagram.
They shared several adorable pictures of the newborn, who arrived at 9.40am on Thursday, being held by Price, Green and his two sons Ollie and Wilba.
The couple, who have been together for three years, announced their pregnancy news in June and that the baby was due on Christmas Day.
Price worked on the coverage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival before going on maternity leave two weeks ago.
“I’ve had a dream run,” she previously told the Herald Sun. “No morning sickness or anything like that and I’ve been able to carry on as per usual.
“When they told me (Christmas due date) I didn’t believe them to be honest. All has gone well which we’re very lucky with. We haven’t had a Christmas at home since Covid really and my family is in Perth, Brad has got family in Tassie and we’re all going to merge back here in Melbourne which will be lovely.”
Green’s former wife Anna and the mother of his two sons died suddenly in 2019.
Price was a sports reporter in Perth and moved to Melbourne six years ago.
She said will be outnumbered in the household – “that’s why I made sure our puppy is a girl” – but the couple couldn’t wait for their life-changing moment.
“The boys have been looking forward to it and they can’t wait to have a new baby in the house and see how things will change,” Green, 42, said.
“Being Caty’s first one, it’s all a bit new and different. It’s 11 years since Wilba was born so I may have forgotten everything, no doubt.
“We’ve got it down to four or five names but we’re still not sure – he’s a no name boy at the moment.”
Price, 42, has taken on the motherly figure role for Ollie and Wilba.
“I did (want a baby) but also realistically knowing it doesn’t happen for everyone and at my age, being a bit older, it might not have been possible,’’ she said.
“Also then thinking we’ve got two beautiful boys as it is, so we’re pretty lucky in that regard so I had the mindset of if it didn’t happen that was OK too.”
Green, who runs his own commercial business, grew up in Tasmania, played 254 games for Melbourne, captained the club and has coached at Carlton and North Melbourne. He is currently on the Demons’ board.
“It was unexpected what happened with Anna, and you meet a new person in your life, and we just let things happen naturally,” he said.
“If it was going to be, it was going to be. We didn’t go out of our way, it was quite a surprise. In a good way it was a surprise.”
Marriage might be on the cards, but they are content having already taken the next step in their relationship.
“There might be (a wedding) one day, we’ll get one thing out at a time,” Green said.
“We’re tied at the hip for a lifetime now with the little man coming and we can’t wait.
“To find a person like Caty who is a motherly figure to our two boys, I’m pretty lucky. (She) is more than you could ask for.”
Price said it was a dream come true.
“At times it’s a steep learning curve from being single to having three boys to look after, but it’s been so wonderful and I’m so lucky to have found all of them,’’ she said.
