Footy’s big fight night has been postponed.
The All Stars Boxing – Footy Fight Night was set to take place at Margaret Court Arena on August 3 with featured bouts between Brownlow Medallists Dane Swan and Adam Cooney plus heavy hitters Brendan Fevola and Cameron Mooney.
The prime-time, pay-per-view extravaganza on Foxtel was also to feature other AFL greats including Brent Harvey and Stephen Milne.
“Regretfully, we are rescheduling the All Stars Boxing – Footy Fight Night to take place after the 2022 AFL season,” the promoters said.
“We want to give footy fans the best chance to see their favourite stars in action in the boxing ring on a Friday night, and due to the scheduling of games it has to take place after the AFL season.
“We’re excited to bring Footy Fight Night, which has been a huge hit with the heavy hitters of the NRL, to life with some of AFL’s biggest names and heroes.
“Hosting Footy Fight Night on a Friday in Melbourne will be a night to remember for sports fans.
“We will endeavour to get a new date confirmed as soon as possible.”
Ticket purchasers will be contacted to advise of their options.
Fevola revealed he had already shredded for the daunting match-up with former Cat Mooney, dropping more than 10kg.
“I was 128kg and now I’m about 116 and a half,’’ Fevola said at the launch earlier this month.
“I’ve been eating really well and I’ve got a kitchen now so I haven’t had Uber Eats four times a day.
“I’m under no illusion. It’s bloody hard, I’m coming from zero fitness. If I go out there looking fat it’s embarrassing but if I go out there and hit the canvas at least I’m looking good.”
Fevola was training Swan and being helped by Michael Zerafa, the world No. 2 IBF contender.
“Hopefully we can have a beers and talk about how tough we are,’’ Swan said.
