THERE wasn’t a lot to love about the launch of Love Island on Sunday night. Despite the hype and publicity, the reality TV show, which is hosted by Sophie Monk, only pulled in 155,000 five city metro viewers on 9GO!

Granted the dating show — which is a mix between Bachelor in Paradise and Big Brother — was not on Channel 9’s main channel but even still it was beaten by film The Avengers, with the six year old film pulling in 222,000 viewers on 7mate.

Meanwhile those who did watch Love Island, were less than complimentary on Twitter.

Many viewers commented that the show, which puts 10 skimpy swimwear wearing, tanned up singles into a house on the Spanish island of Mallorca, was “boring” “awful” and responsible for causing “brain cells withering and dying by the second.”

However the most passionate response came from fellow reality dating show contestant Georgia Love.

The Bachelorette’s star slammed the dating show, saying “I am so appalled by #LoveIslandAU I’m not even going to justify a worthwhile tweet about it. Absolutely abhorrent.”

Monk hit back, tweeting “Adore you, but we can’t judge when there weren’t other women in the show. Lets wait. Beauty within shines always,” then adding, “BTW we both wore bikinis.”

Love went on to explain she wasn’t judging the people on the show, rather “was just really disappointed by how it felt as if the girls were simply pieces of meat and up [for] the taking.”

However a spokesperson from Nine said they were pleased with the launch of the show.

“It is consistent with what we were expecting and certainly not disappointed,” they said, adding it took the UK version three years for it to hit its peak stride.

“It’s a multi-platform, digital, no traditional show. We are pleased with the start and the noise it created on Twitter and online.”

The show will air on GO and Nine Now from Sunday to Thursday.
