Julia Roberts wins the Emmys with her ‘lively’ award presentation

SHE may not have won an Emmy this year, but Julia Roberts ensured she was one of the most talked-about stars after her hilarious award presentation and after party entrance.

Julia Roberts slurs and stumbles through Emmy award presentation

SHE may not have won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a miniseries, but Julia Roberts ensured she was one of the most talked-about stars at this year’s event after her hilarious award presentation.

After the Emmy Awards took place, she arrived at the HBO After Party barefoot.

Her husband Danny Moder, another Emmy nominee, was seen carrying her shoes, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The screen legend took to the stage late during the award ceremony to present the award for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Dressed in a dark blue Elie Saab frock embellished with oversized beading, Roberts looked a little sleepy and slurred her words when announcing the category she was presenting.

She then left long, awkward pauses between each of the nominees names, even joking around and using Oprah-style emphasis on some words.

She also seemed to break the cardinal rule of presenting an award, by seeming more excited about some nominees than others.

Then when it came time to open the envelope she declared: “This is horrible”.

“This is a horrible category. God, I’m glad I’m not in this category. And I apologise to anybody who doesn’t hug me in the next 10 seconds.”

Earlier in the evening while backstage in the press room to talk to reporters about the victory of The Normal Heart in the Outstanding TV movie category, Roberts was also in an ebullient and lively mood.

She gleefully draped herself on director Ryan Murphy before resting her head on his shoulder while posing for pictures.

But it was her televised presentation that lit up social media, particularly her protracted announcement of the winner.

“The Emmy goes to … and you’re all fabulous by the way. The Emmy goes to ...”

Thankfully, Roberts managed to confirm that it was Bryan Cranston who took out the award for his leading role in hit series Breaking Bad.

It’s not the first time Roberts has seemed somewhat lively at an awards ceremony.

In a wonderfully awkward moment on the red carpet at the Golden Globes in 2010, she told the interviewer from NBC that his network was “in the toilet right now” in reference to ongoing ratings struggles.
