Australian actor Sarah Snook paid tribute to her daughter as she accepted an Emmy for her role in the HBO drama Succession.
Awarded the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, Snook’s competitors included Elisabeth Moss, of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, and Keri Russell of Netflix’s The Diplomat.
Taking the stage at the awards 75th edition on Tuesday, Snook, who performed the character of Shiv Roy, the member of a dysfunctional billionaire family, thanked the cast and crew, alongside her parents and her parents “for having a dress-up box when I was a kid – this is where it gets you.”
Snook, who was pregnant through the production of the final series of the show, also paid tribute to her newly born daughter.
“I carried her with me in this last series, and really it was her carrying me,” she said.
“The proximity of her life growing inside gave me the strength to play Shiv through, you know, takeovers and betrayal and such.”
The commendation is Snook’s first Emmy win, having been nominated for two previous gongs.
Fellow Australian actors Murray Bartlett, Anna Torv and Elizabeth Debicki also received Emmy nominations, but did not win in their categories.
