Adam Goodes and wife Natalie Croker welcome baby girl

It’s been a busy week for Adam Goodes and his wife with both the airing of a documentary on his AFL career and the arrival of his first child. The overjoyed couple have drawn inspiration from an Australian city for their new bub’s name.

AFL legend Adam Goodes and his wife Natalie Croker have given birth to a baby girl Adelaide.

The daughter is their first child, with the retired AFL legend and dual Brownlow Medallist having publicly announced the pregnancy in February.

Goodes has told family and friends in the past 24 hours after Natalie gave birth on Wednesday.

The Sydney star is one of football’s great champions, as a dual premiership star who kicked key goals in the 2012 premiership on one leg and won Sydney’s goalkicking title three times.

He is also the subject of twin documentaries about his legacy after the booing controversy that drove him from the game.

The passionate indigenous rights advocate has drawn back from the game in recent years but has been interviewed for Stan Grant’s documentary The Australian Dream.

Channel 10 announced this week it will screen the archival footage documentary The Final Quarter in coming months after incredible reviews about the powerful piece of film making.

The league last week released the most significant apology of its century-long existence, saying it had let down Goodes when racially-motivated booing saw him retire in anger.

“The treatment of Adam challenges us, and our right to be considered Australia’s indigenous football code. Adam, who represents so much that is good and unique about our game, was subject to treatment that drove him from football. The game did not do enough to stand with him and call it out,” it said in a statement.

“We apologise unreservedly for our failures during this period.”

But AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan has been criticised for not acting more quickly during the saga and not delivering that apology in a public forum rather than a written statement.
