A revival of Dancing with the Stars could be on the cards

A REVIVAL of the once popular Dancing with the Stars is on the cards, with speculation rife that one Australian network is looking to reboot the series.

IF the rumours are true, Channel 10 will be the new home of Dancing with the Stars.

The shiny-floor show, which last screened on Channel 7 in 2015, is believed to be part of a suite of light entertainment shows that Ten will unveil over coming months.

Early word was that Grant Denyer, who won the shows fourth season of the local version in 2006, would be the host.

That seems doubtful now that Denyer has been signed to front the Aussie version of Ellen DeGeneres’ Game of Games.

Ten program chief Beverley McGarvey is coy about Ten’s plans but admits they have considered the format.

“We look at all the big formats every year,” McGarvey said.

“There are so few big formats in the world that we would be crazy not to.

“I’d never say that we wouldn’t have a look at it (Dancing with the Stars). There have been so few strong formats in Australia and so at some point their time may or may not come again.”

The US version of Dancing with the Stars is still going strong after 26 seasons.

Aussie Bindi Irwin won the 21st season in 2015.

The show is filmed at CBS Television City in Los Angeles. Ten is now owned by CBS.

The Aussie version of Dancing with the Stars lasted fifteen seasons before being canned.

The final season was hosted by comedian Shane Bourne after long-time host Daniel MacPherson pulled the pin to concentrate on acting.

Daryl Somers was the show’s first host, fronting seven seasons before MacPherson took the reins.

Ten is also reportedly considering British variety show Saturday Night Takeaway — renamed Sunday Night Takeaway here — to be presented by Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris.

Morris has already been earmarked to present a new version of Blind Date on Ten.

Ten has been putting a lot of emphasis on light entertainment formats with Hughesy, We Have a Problem, with Dave Hughes, and Show Me the Movie, with Rove McManus, screening in recent months.
