After a 12 year run it was expected the show would return for another round, but the Daily Telegraph reports Channel Seven has officially pulled the celebrity reality dance show from its schedule.
“We’ve had a great deal of enjoyment and fun during the incredible 12 years of tulle and twirling Dancing has given us all. The audience numbers from the last season were disappointing though, and the show will not return in 2017,” a Seven spokeswoman told the Daily Telegraph.
With the network broadcasting the Olympics in the middle of the year, Dancing was noticeably absent from the schedule. And with Seven unveiling their programming and production slate for 2017 later this week, the celeb-centric show will be left out.
Last year’s series failed to pull in the big numbers of previous years. Its premiere pulled in 778,000 metro viewers, down on the 1.04 million viewers who tuned in for the 2014 premiere. Interest was also down on last year’s finale, with only 883,000 metro viewers tuning in to see Emma Freedman win the mirrorball trophy.
Last year also saw changes to the hosting line-up after Daniel MacPherson left to pursue other acting gigs overseas. With actor Shane Bourne stepping in as his replacement alongside Edwina Bartholomew, fans weren’t too forgiving of the Thank God You’re Here star’s hosting style.
