Victoria’s best VCE schools by study score
Victoria’s schools with the highest number of study scores over 45 have been revealed. Search the database to see how government and private schools compare.

Elite private schools and selective high schools dominate Victoria’s list of best VCE schools, but a number of suburban state schools are achieving impressive results.
The Herald Sun has calculated a list of the best schools with VCE subject scores of 45 or above.
These 340 schools are headed by Haileybury Girls College which has 133 scores of 45 or above, Melbourne High which has 130, Haileybury with 110, Methodist Ladies’ College with 107 and Caulfield Grammar with 103.
Students are marked out of 50 for each subject, but receive a moderated percentage ATAR score for university entry.
The list of scores over 45 is not exhaustive as some students do not give permission for their names to be published.
A regional standout is Ballarat Clarendon College, which has 79 scores of 45 and over and 12 perfect scores of 50. Principal David Shepherd said he was “exceptionally proud of our Year 12 students” despite “two years of turbulence”.
Selective state schools continue to post outstanding results, with eight perfect scores at MacRobertson Girls High, seven at Suzanne Corey High School, and three at Nossal High School.
In addition, John Monash Science School has nine perfect scores and University High has five.
Albert Park College student Isabella Noble, who achieved an ATAR of 94.9, said she was feeling “very relieved” to complete her VCE studies.
“It was a very difficult year to motivate myself and I’m really proud to achieve these results,” she said.
The results show students at some of the state’s most popular and in-demand open entry state schools are excelling. These include Balwyn High, East Doncaster Secondary College, Glen Waverley Secondary College, and Mount Waverley Secondary College.
Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College has an impressive six perfect scores and 37 scores over 45 and Melbourne Girls’ Secondary College has 42 scores over 45 three perfect 50s.
Other state schools posting admirable results include Brunswick Secondary College, Melbourne Girls’ College, Strathmore Secondary College and McKinnon Secondary College.
Jillian English, principal of Strathmore Secondary College, said all students “are part of a learning community where everyone, regardless of their interests or passions, can experience success and achieve at the very highest level”.
Also noteworthy are the grades from Frankston High, Northcote High, Ringwood Secondary College and Dromana Secondary College.
Good value private schools in the Catholic sector with outstanding results include Siena College which has nine perfect scores, Star of the Sea and Padua College
Other top-performing Catholic schools include St Kevin’s College, Loreto Mandeville Hall, Xavier College, Sacred Heart Oakleigh and Genazzano.
Other top independent schools include Trinity Grammar, Firbank Grammar, Lauriston and Carey Grammar.
Adrian Farrer, principal of Trinity Grammar, said all students’ results were worthy of
acknowledgment and celebration.
