Year 12 VCE students receive results

Thousands of relieved students have celebrated the release of their VCE results, including almost 20,000 lucky Victorian students who received study scores of 40 or above.

These include 600 students who received perfect scores of 50 across 56 main subject categories.

Some students received an impressive four perfect scores, including Rachel Tan from Mount Waverley Secondary College and Yevin Gamlath and Ramodh Jayasinghe from Melbourne High.

The most-awarded subject was Further Maths, despite reports that students struggled with the second part of the exam.

Another 77 perfect scores were given in English, 38 in Maths Methods, 37 in Psychology, 33 in Health and Human Development and 31 in Biology.

Schools also announced their top student achievers.

Private school duxes included Tye Samuels from Bialik College who considered himself the “underdog”, Amy Uren from Toorak College, Charlotte Li from Korowa Anglican Girls’ School, Josh Rotstein from Mount Scopus, Amelie Milazzi from St Aloysius, Larry Pang from Trinity Grammar, and Jackson Dun from Ballarat Clarendon College.

State school duxes included Leonie Lac from Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College, Vy Vu from Brunswick Secondary College and Kartik Iyer from Balwyn High, who is the school’s tenth student to get a perfect ATAR since 2014.

The list of leading students includes Mark Knight from East Doncaster Secondary College, who obtained two perfect scores of 50 even though he is only in year 11.

Principal John Roberts said such results “were a testament to the resilience and perseverance of the students”.

“It speaks volumes about their strength of character and the educational program at this school. It is also a celebration of our teachers,” he said.

Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority chief executive Steven Gniel said students had earned an A+ for resilience.

“Some of them, in Mallacoota and the Mallee, started with the fires in 2020 and they’ve seen it all the way through the pandemic,” he said.

Mr Gniel said there was still fine tuning to be done for the results of students who did not sit exams.

Education Minister James Merlino said: “From Maths to Media, French to Food Studies – Victorian students have excelled in their studies, even through the most challenging of years.”

“Congratulations to all our high-achieving VCE students this year – these scores are a huge achievement, and the result of many hours of work, late nights and stressful moments,” he said.

“No matter what the next step is on your education or employment journey, this is just the beginning – there are so many opportunities and pathways available to you, and I encourage you to take all the opportunities available in the years to come.”

The list of students with scores of over 40 is not exhaustive as some students have not given permission for their name to be made public.
