Man dies after workplace incident at macadamia farm in Owanyilla

A man has died hours after he was crushed by machinery in a workplace incident on a macadamia farm in Queensland.

Emergency services were called following reports a man in his 50s was crushed standing near an excavator at Owanyilla on the Fraser Coast at 3.20pm on Tuesday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics treated the man for life-threatening injuries to his legs, abdomen and pelvis and was treated at the scene.

He was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition and later died.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) spokesman said an investigation was under way into the death at the macadamia farm.

“WHSQ inspectors are responding to the incident on site with the Queensland Police Service this morning,” the spokesman said.

“As this is a current investigation, no further comment can be made at this time.”
