A Scenic Rim teenager has fronted court on 12 charges, the most serious of which involve participating in an assault of a security guard at a Logan pub and racially abusing them.

Wonglepong concreter Rohnan John Lynch, 19, pleaded guilty to all twelve charges in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

They were: common assault, fail to leave licensed premise, public nuisance at a licensed premise, four counts of possess drug utensils, three counts of possess dangerous drugs, and two counts of drug-driving.

The court heard the first three offences occurred at the Logan Village Hotel after 8pm on December 6 last year.

Lynch and two friends attended the pub after work, dressed in thongs and casual wear.

However, at some point during the night, the dress-code changed and the trio were ejected from the pub.

They returned, wearing appropriate clothes, yet were inexplicably denied re-entry.

This set off a confrontation between the trio and a security guard, which resulted in the guard being assaulted.

It was accepted by the court Lynch was not the primary instigator, and at times looked on CCTV as though he was trying to break up the fight.

However, the court took a dim view nevertheless of Lynch’s behaviour during the fight, as he was witnessed and heard hurling “racial” abuse at the hapless security guard.

“He should have kept his mouth shut,” defence lawyer Raquel Brehmer conceded.

“He didn’t want to leave his mates behind.”

The other nine offences all occurred between March – April this year.

“He was hanging out with the wrong crowd and no longer sees them anymore,” Ms Brehmer said.

She told the court her client was from a “good family” which supports him, and he ultimately wants to work in the mines like his father.

Part of Lynch’s mum’s reference was read onto the record, where she said she “appreciated what the police have done to snap Rohnan out of his downward spiral”.

He has since kicked his drug habit.

Lynch was ordered to perform 12 months’ probation and disqualified from driving for six months.

No convictions were recorded.
