AN Instagram influencer is accused of hitting an acquaintance multiple times with a firearm during an armed robbery at a Surfers Paradise hotel resort.

Elliot Gene Hassell, who has more than 156,0000 Instagram followers, was denied bail when he appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

He is charged with robbery, possessing dangerous drugs and entering a dwelling while armed.

Prosecutor Jade Goodburn told the court Hassell struck the man on the head with a firearm “several times” in early hours of July 24 and “as a result of that abuse sustained head concussion, abrasions and bruising to the body”.

It is not clear what type of firearm was allegedly used.

“Investigators hold grave concerns in relation to the witnesses,” Ms Goodburn said.

A “witness had indicated to police he is fearful of the defendant”.

Ms Goodburn told the court the “primary concern” was the risk Hassell would commit further offences.

“Of particular concern is the risk that on July 6 he was granted 12 months’ probation for similar drug offences,” she said.

Defence lawyer Corey Cullen, of Cullen Lawyers, said Hassell was able to live with his parents in Hope Island, work in their renovation company and provide $50,000 in surety.

He said Hassell was also willing to abide by a curfew and not contact the complainant or witnesses.

Magistrate Pam Dowse denied bail.

“I am fearful there is an unacceptable risk of committing further offences by this person even with the very stringent bail conditions,” she said.

The matter was adjourned to August 10.
