Police have seized what they say is about $2 million worth of the drug ice in a suitcase after a chase through the Gold Coast.
Police tried to stop a car on the M1 at Elanora about 3.50pm on Monday but the 48-year-old driver from Thornlands sped off.
The man then allegedly collided with an unmarked police car on KP McGrath Drive before heading to Currumbin.
Police allege the man abandoned the car at the corner of Thrower and Hooper drives before he fled on foot.
It will be alleged the man dumped a suitcase he was carrying in a garbage bin before police stopped him on Hooper St.
The suitcase allegedly had about 10kg on methylampethamine.
Police also claim they found a quantity of heroin when they searched the man.
It is estimated the drugs allegedly had a street value of about $2 million.
The man was charged with 30 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of serious assault police officer, evade police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possessing anything used in the commission of crime.
He was expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Elanora resident Katrina Garde witnessed the end of the chase.
“A damaged car pulled up, driver got out grabbing suitcase from car, then dumped it in the wheelie bin and ran down Hooper Drive towards Thrower Drive,” she said.
“Police everywhere by now, and they got him. Unsure how long or where the car chase started.”
