POLICE are on the hunt for two men after a 24-year-old man was bashed in the middle of the street on a major Gold Coast roadway.

Shortly before 3am on Sunday, a 24-year-old Biggera Waters man got into an argument with two men waiting at the central Burleigh Heads bus stop on the Gold Coast Highway.

Police will allege one of the men repeatedly punched the 24-year-old in the face, before collapsing in the middle of the roadway.

A Queensland Police Service officer was attending another job nearby and was alerted to the incident and broke up the fight.

While the officer was helping the victim the two men fled on foot, according to a Queensland Police Service spokesperson.

The 24-year-old was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with a broken jaw on two sides and a broken nose.

Police are urging the two men to come forward and for anyone who recognises the pair or has any information regarding the assault to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
