Police are hunting a motorist who ditched his vehicle and fled on foot into bushland near Gold Coast theme parks after allegedly speeding off from police during a traffic stop.
The silver Holden Commodore sedan was reported acting suspiciously in Nerang about 7.15pm on Tuesday, a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said.
“Police attempted to intercept the vehicle at Helensvale, but it failed to stop,” the spokesman said.
“The vehicle eventually stopped between Entertainment Drive and the M1 - and the driver ran into bushland.”
Multiple police cars were seen parked along the M1 and in nearby streets in the area which is home to theme parks MovieWorld, Wet ‘n’ Wild and the Top Golf attraction.
The dog squad and Polair helicopter also joined the search effort.
Officers were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle and investigations are continuing.
