Police are still to make contact with a woman involved in a traffic accident in Coombabah on Tuesday morning that saw a car thrown onto its roof.

The two-vehicle crash occurred westbound on the Gold Coast Highway at Marble Arch Place, Coombabah just before 7.30am on Tuesday.

Lanes were closed on the road as a result of the incident, causing about 2km of traffic to build back towards Harbour Town at Biggera Waters, and resulting in chaos for parents dropping children to nearby AB Patterson College.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokeswoman said a woman aged in her 60s from one of the vehicles was assessed by paramedics and was taken to Gold Coast Private Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

There were no occupants found with the second vehicle involved, according to the spokeswoman.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said a woman was seen leaving the crash site on foot and was last reported entering nearby dense bushland.

Officers conducted foot patrols of the area, while the police helicopter was also brought in to help find the woman.

Despite the extensive search effort, as of 5pm police had still not made contact with the woman. However the Bulletin understands they are following a definite line of inquiry in the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or Police Link.

Unrelated congestion was also impacting traffic on the Gold Coast M1 southbound from Ormeau to the Hope Island offramp, with commuters reporting half-hour delays through the stretch.
