A man who says he woke up to intruders attacking him inside his Gold Coast home has told police he fled out a window.

Emergency services found a 45-year-old man at the adress on Whitintreet Labrador, about 5am on Monday.

Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said the man had been “significantly injured” and was rushed to Gold Coast Universaity Hospital

“He’s got a number of lacerations, contusions and a suspected broken arm,” he said.

A crime scene was established at the property and forensics crews took photos of blood splatters left on the outside of the home and a rubbish bin.

Finger prints were also collected from a fence.

Acting Supt Knowles said police were initially investigating whether the injured man had fallen out a window, however inquries shifted after officers spoke to him in hospital.

“His preliminary indications are he was asleep, somebody has entered into his house whether broken into or exactly what occurred. He was woken by being assaulted,” he said.

“He’s then fled through a window over the balcony and for us those investigations are in their preliminary stages. He’s been sedated so trying to get a little bit more detail out of him is a little bit more difficult.”

Supt Knowles said the man was known to police and that was forming part of their investigation.

“There have been no indications of any weapons, other than he was assaulted”

“We don’t know what’s happened to this person that’s assaulted him - if there was such a person. He says he’s lost consciousness after he’s fallen over that window. We don’t know what’s happened from there.

“So whether these people knew each other and have come around and assaulted him or whether this is somebody who’s unknown to him,” he said.

A man with bandaged hands and facial injuries arrived at the scene about 11am.

He spoke briefly with police before being led inside. It’s not know whether he is related to the investigation.

A resident where the violent attack is alleged to have occurred, claims an armed man tried to break into the same home in January.

The witness said a male wielding a machete tried to kick down the front door in broad daylight.

“He was yelling ‘I told youse not to f*** with me’ and swearing a lot, the woman said.

“(He) was kicking and smashing. He’s jumped the fence and went next door and kept going off. It was petrifying.”

Photos at the time of the earlier incident show what appears to be an aggressive man getting out of a gold Holden Commodore.

He looks mid-to-late 30s, shirtless and heavily tattooed, carrying a long object in his right hand.

The neighbour says she filed a report with photos to Crime Stoppers.
