A bail application had to be stopped part way through after the defendant allegedly punched a watch-house officer twice in the head.
Prosecutor Erin Garland and defence lawyer Vered Turner, of Vered Turner Lawyers, were discussing the matter of Micha Josiah Thomas Grant while they waited for him to be produced from the watch-house.
Ms Turner told the court Grant would be applying for bail.
As Ms Garland was preparing paperwork to be tendered to the court a watch-house officer entered the courtroom.
“Can we please put this on hold, he has just punched me twice in the face,” he said.
Magistrate Dzenita Balic asked Ms Turner if she wanted to continue with a bail application, indicating she was unlikely to give bail in the current circumstances.
Ms Turner asked for the matters to be adjourned until Tuesday.
The watch-house officer indicated that charges would be laid.
He told the court the punches were “not hard”.
The watch-house officer continued with his duties, which included relaying messages from the courtroom to the watch-house and arranging defendants in custody to be produced in court.
