A prolific repeat juvenile criminal allegedly involved in a dangerous high-speed south-east Queensland chase spanning hours has taken to social media to taunt police.
The 15-year-old, on bail for offences including stealing cars and breaking into home, has shared the Bulletin’s coverage of what was described as a dangerous incident to his Instagram story with the text “too slow” alongside a sad face emojii and a helicopter.
The teenager, who can’t be identified due to legal reasons, was allegedly livestreaming from inside a stolen Audi on Tuesday, as it was being tracked by the polair police helicopter.
He’s uploaded the Bulletin coverage and taunts on Wednesday.
Earlier, duing the chase, officers had been tracking the vehicle for hours after it was allegedly used in an attempted armed robbery, in which a firearm was produced, at Pelican Waters on the Sunshine Coast earlier in the day.
Polair Footage from the chase, leaked by furious police, shows a grey Audi SQ5 darting across lanes of traffic and narrowly passing large transporter trucks on the Gateway Motorway near Nudgee about 11am on Monday.
A police source told the Bulletin, the incident left him and his colleagues in disbelief.
“It truly is a f***ing miracle no one was seriously hurt or killed,” an officer said.
“This is happening too often and the community have a right to know.”
The Audi was clocked doing more than 180km/h on the Bruce Highway near the Pine Rivers Bridge. Similar dangerous speeds were recorded on the Gateway Motorway past the Brisbane airport.
As the teens approached Logan, north of the Gold Coast, they reportedly collided with a Toyota Prado and spun out of control, still managing to speed off.
It’s understood the driver of the Prado had deliberately veered to help stop the stolen car.
“We know who (the alleged culprits) are. The question is why are they constantly allowed to get away with this?” a police source said.
“You’re talking multiple police crews across the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Logan, even the Gold Coast and Ipswich were on alert for where they would head next.”
The car chase went for so long Polair had to land and refuel, and the chase was abandoned.
It’s understood the vehicle was stolen during a burglary at Joyner about 1.50am on Monday.
It has been linked to offences at Redcliffe and Strathpine in Brisbane’s north and sighted in multiple suburbs over the last 24 hours, including Helensvale on the Gold Coast.
The Audi is light grey with QLD registration 908IW3 - anyone who spots the car is urged to dial triple-0 immediately.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the incident is being investigated.
