The light blue floral dress was found on the footbridge at Biggera Creek, off Hollywell Road, on Tuesday evening shortly after the woman vanished.

She’s described as caucasian and aged in her late teens to early 20s, and was last seen jumping off a bridge at about 4.30pm.

She failed to resurface, sparking a frantic search effort.

On Wednesday Gold Coast water police officer in charge Peter Venz said dive crews were assisting with the extensive search effort.

“They’ve been running sonar equipment in the police boats, up and down the canals just looking for any anomalies,” Mr Venz said.

“We have had one report from a building site. A worker thought he saw what may have been a body in the water yesterday at about 4.30pm.

“We’ve had another report of a female spotted on CCTV semi-naked around the Morala Ave area at about 5am.”

Both reports hadn’t been verified and were still under investigation by police.

Officers have contacted hospitals and searched their own internal records as they try to identify the missing woman.

Mr Venz urged the public to keep coming forward with information.

“If they have any missing loved ones that they’ve noticed haven’t come home since yesterday afternoon, if they can contact police,” he said.

“If you do have any CCTV in or around this foot bridge at that time, if you can have a look through that footage.

“If you see anything that stands out, if you could get that to police.”

Police spent several hours searching an area which stretched from Hollywell Rd in the east to Harbour Town shopping centre in the west.

There was no sign of the woman.

Matthew Botham lives about a kilometre down stream from where the woman was last seen. He watched as the search effort unfolded on Tuesday night.

“The police boat was slowly going up and back for ages” Mr Botham said.

“They must have been out here until eight, nine o’clock.

“It’s not deep water but there is a strong current that rips through here when the tides coming and going.”
