Queensland Police lack employment 'despite the population growth'

Police are searching for a group of teens who rammed a cop car and fled in broad daylight in stolen cars on Monday afternoon.

The alleged culprits have been seen on social media bragging about stealing one of the three cars involved, an act police described as “childish”.

Police went to a Ferry Rd, Southport service station just after 2pm on Monday after reports of a suspicious red Land Rover parked at the premises.

The Land Rover was stolen from a Shailer Park car yard on April 8.

Police parked in front of the Land Rover – with New South Wales number plates EWZ 06E – which then rammed the marked vehicle.

The police car was still drivable and none of the officers were hurt.

The Land Rover left with a stolen Volkswagen Scirocco which was taken from Pacific Blvd, Broadbeach Waters between April 30 and May 1.

The car has the registration plates 015 GY4.

The Scirocco was dumped on the shoulder of the M1 northbound near the Beenleigh North exit about 2.50pm.

A third stolen car – a white 1999 Toyota Corolla – was spotted with the cars heading in convoy to Logan.

That car had been taken from Discovery Blvd, Bahrs Scrub on April 29.

Gold Coast Police Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said police had seen social media posts of three teens in the stolen Land Rover.

It is believed that footage was taken in the days prior to the police car being rammed.

“To put it bluntly it makes it very easy for us,” he said.

“You are no master criminal if you are jumping up on social media and showing your face and showing what you are doing in a particular car … it doesn’t actually test our detectives much.

“It’s just childish behaviour from basically children.”

He said police had identified two juveniles and one adult in the group and were currently searching for them.

Supt Sheldon said one of the cars had filled up just prior to police trying to stop them at the service station.

“This particular incident is them trying to get away really quickly because they are in a stolen car,” he said.

“It’s just another example of lawless behaviour.”

Acting Supt Sheldon said two of the people in the car had been identified from social media posts prior to the ramming.

“There appears no attempt to hide their identity or anything like that and they seem half proud of their activities,” he said.

He said the officers who were in the car that had been rammed were “good” but “disappointed there weren’t able to get a hold” of the offenders.
