Labrador residents took to the street on Monday night in an effort to help find an elderly man who had gone missing from his home.

The residents began to search their streets after the police helicopter flew over the suburb just before 8.30pm on Monday announcing they were looking for a 92-year-old man.

The man, Gregory, had gone missing from Robert St about midday.

A Queensland Police Media spokeswoman said the man was found safe and well a short time after the helicopter made the announcement.

After the helicopter flew over, Labrador residents took to social media to share that they were searching and that they had not been able to find Gregory in their street.

One resident said on Facebook: “My daughter saw him and tried to engage him in chat this afternoon – he was walking past our apartment on Frank St heading towards the Grand (Hotel. She’s contacted police.”

Another said: “Checked Muir Street. Police patrols with multiple flood lights slowly patrolling. Please find Gregory. It’s cold tonight. That poor man must be so frightened.”

Residents also shared map screenshots of where they had been searching.

Other residents also expressed their concern for Gregory as the temperature was dropping.

Some were warmed by the community spirit.

“So many people looking. What a great community,” one said.
