A GOLD Coast man accused of stabbing two alleged bikie associates at a Biggera Waters unit claims he was acting in self defence from “two lunatics who tried to set his unit on fire”, a court was told.

Dallas Luciano Morgan had been released from custody just nine days prior to the alleged stabbing.

Morgan was released on bail after the 26-year-old appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday via video link from the watchhouse. He is charged with two counts of unlawful wounding.

He had a bandage around his left index finger.

Morgan, allegedly linked to the Mongols bikie gang, is accused of stabbing two men, after a fight at the unit.

The two allegedly stabbed men are allegedly linked to a rival gang, understood to be the Comancheros.

It is alleged a 42-year-old Redland Bay man Nathan Meagher and another man were at the unit where Morgan and others were drinking at 3.30am on Sunday when a fight broke out.

Meagher and the other man left and allegedly got a jerry can of petrol at a nearby 7/Eleven.

Police allege Meagher and the man retuned to the unit where they were armed with a gun and sprayed the doors of the unit with petrol and tried to light it on fire.

It is alleged Morgan then came out armed with a knife and a fight began.

During the fight Meagher was stabbed in the eye, ears and ribs and the other man in the chest and abdomen.

The court was told no one was co-operating with police so the cause of the original fight was not known.

Morgan’s lawyer Michael Gatenby, of Gatenby Criminal Lawyers said: “Two lunatics are trying to set your unit on fire … and racking a gun – you might well think you would arm yourself.

“This isn’t a case where you sit and watch your unit burn down.

“You might well think it was self defence of a girlfriend to not to have her cremated.”

Prosecutor Jade Goodburn said Morgan posed too much of a risk of reoffending.

“He was most recently before court on October 22 and within a mere nine days of release on a probation order for an assault occasioning bodily harm he has then committed these offences,” she said.

“That speaks to a blatant disregard for court processes.”

Magistrate Mark Howden granted Morgan bail on strict conditions including regular reporting to police, a curfew between 8pm and 5am, no contact with the victims and no international travel.

He said on the material before him it was possible Morgan had a number of defences against the allegations including self defence and defence of premises.

Morgan’s matter will return to court on November 23.

Meagher had been due to appear in court on Monday charged with attempted arson and dangerous conduct with a weapon but has since had his matter was adjourned to December 14.

Outside of court Mr Gatenby said Morgan was “looking forward to clearing his name”.

“It seems very clear on the material he is acting at least protectively of the home and certainly of the young ladies in the home,” he said.

Mr Gatenby said it was not clear how police had linked Morgan to the Mongols.

“The allegation that he is an associate which in Queensland means that you know someone that at one time you have been in a member of the club,” he said.

“I don’t think there is any suggestion that this is bikie related, it just seems that someone’s cousin got into a fight.”

Mr Gatenby said from the allegations it appeared to be a fight between people that escalated “rapidly”.
