Police seized drugs and “items of interest” as part of an early morning raid at a high-profile Gold Coast horse racing stable.
Police sources have told the Bulletin 10 officers, including the dog squad, executed a search warrant at the property on Ken Russell Court, Bundall at about 5.30am on Sunday March 24.
It’s understood a phone and computer were seized from the search.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman told the Bulletin officers were at the property conducting inquiries.
“Officers located and seized a small quantity of drugs, drug paraphernalia and items of interest,” the spokesman said. “Investigations are continuing.” No charges have been laid.
The property is listed as jointly owned by Mel Eggleston and Mandy Jupp, who are employed as the head of the Gold Coast stables for Lees Racing.
There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Mr Eggleston, Ms Jupp, Lees Racing or any of its Gold Coast employees or that they knew of the items seized by police.
The Bulletin contacted Mr Eggleston, a leading trainer with 371 career winners to his name. He said he was shocked by the police visit.
He claimed he was told by officers they were acting on a complaint which he says was untrue.
