Police have had a busy morning at Broadbeach, charging a man who allegedly ran his vehicle into the back of a 4WD while drunk, and arresting a pair in relation to a stolen car crash.

It’s also alleged the drink driver punched an officer while being taken into custody.

The 45-year-old man behind the wheel of the 4WD suffered minor injuries, according to a police statement.

“Police detained the driver of the vehicle who ran up the back of the 4WD and it is alleged the man blew 0.211, which is just over four times the legal limit,” the statement read.

“It is also alleged the man also punched an officer while being transported to the watchhouse.

The man from Varsity Lakes has been charged with did drive under the influence of liquor and serious assault police.

He was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on August 29 and he has also been given a notice of suspension on his licence.

About 20 minutes later, it’s alleged a separate stolen car crash occurred on the Gold Coast Highway, at the intersection of Rosewood Ave.

Police were called “after a Mazda CX 5 believed to have been stolen from Toowoomba on August 3, 2022 crashed into a light pole on the southbound lanes”.

“The impact of the crash caused the power pole to fall and block the southbound lanes,” the statement read.

Both the male driver and female passenger in the vehicle fled and were located by police a short time later in Rosewood Ave.

“The male driver was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment to minor injuries when the airbag deployed in the vehicle.”

The driver, a 25-year-old man of no fixed abode and the passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Booval were in the watchhouse and investigations were ongoing later on Monday morning.
