A man laughed while thrusting his naked body and genitalia toward bystanders at a Gold Coast park, telling police people “deserved to see” the lewd act, a court has heard.
Brodie Lloyd Ryan didn’t appear at Coolangatta Magistrates Court where he faced one count each of wilful exposure and contravening a police order, relating to the incident on January 15. He was found guilty in his absence.
Police prosecutor Danielle Hunt said officers received “multiple” calls to triple-zero as Ryan exposed himself to bystanders near a popular children’s playground off Syndicate Road in Tallebudgera Valley.
“(Police) located the male, still naked, standing on the roadside with his penis exposed,” Ms Hunt told the court.
“They told him to get clothed, however he was belligerent, obnoxious and stated the public deserve to be exposed to it, his naked body.”
The court was told Ryan admitted to attending officers he was angry because he was disrupted earlier in the day by Rural Fire Services crews who were responding to a small campfire that he had lit.
Officers used Ryan’s car registration to locate his information after he refused to provide police with his correct contact details, the court was told.
He was issued with a notice to appear at Coolangatta Magistrates Court on Monday.
In his absence, Magistrate Kerry Magee chose not to record a criminal conviction for the alleged offending but issued Ryan with $400 in fines.
