Three men charged with assaulting another man and a woman after a Gold Coast road rage incident – leaving one of them in hospital – have been identified in court.

One of the accused tried to tell reporters they had “the wrong man” when questioned outside the courthouse.

Cody Paul Vance Moana, 36, Logan Moana, 21, and Waka Eddie Taukiri, 20, each face one charge of wounding and two of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company.

It is alleged an altercation broke out on Steves Way, Coomera at about 11pm on June 28, where a white MG and a blue Mazda had pulled over after a road rage incident.

A 28-year-old Nerang man from the MG suffered non-life-threatening facial injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It was reported at the time that another three occupants of that vehicle sustained minor injuries and were not treated in hospital.

The Mazda had allegedly left the scene by the time police arrived, but was soon found parked nearby on O’Reilly Drive at about 11.30pm.

The accused trio were arrested at the scene.

Only Mr Taukiri appeared in person when their cases were mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court for the first time on Thursday. The other two men were legally represented.

The court was told the group currently worked together, making it difficult for Mr Taukiri to comply with a bail condition to have no contact with his co-accused.

The Coomera man’s bail conditions do include having no contact with either of the alleged victims.

Strolling from the courthouse while eating a packet of chips, Mr Taukiri avoided the questions lobbed at him by reporters, including whether he planned to fight the charges.

Mr Taukiri’s case was adjourned to August 1, and his co-accused to July 23. All three remain on bail.
