Senior police on the Northern Gold Coast claim criminals are no longer “scared” of the law after two stations were targeted in the same week with a cop car theft and burnouts.
On Wednesday night the only officer working out of Runaway Bay was attending to a domestic violence call-out when a black Holden Commodore pulled-up outside the entrance to the station and did a burnout, leaving a giant skidmark on the road.
A large plume of smoke filled Morala Ave according to a police source.
“They must have been there for a few minutes at least, they burst both tyres and you can see the deep cuts in the bitumen from where the rims were spinning” they said.
“If that doesn’t say they don’t give a f**k, what does? Morale is at rock bottom, the only people who think everything is fine are the ones sitting at a desk and paid a big salary.”
A number of residents at the neighbouring properties heard the hoons and came outside as the vehicle pulled away from the station and tore down the street.
The big black tyre marks and shreds of rubber were discovered by the solo officer when they returned from the call-out. It’s the second time a Northern suburbs police station has been targeted in recent days.
Earlier this week an officer at Coomera had their car stolen while it was parked outside the police station. It’s unclear how the culprits managed to take the car, but a police source says the theft wasn’t noticed until the officer had finished their shift.
“We just keep asking ourselves what will the b--tards do next? This is beyond a joke and it has to stop” they said.
“No one should be harassed or have their workplace abused. If it happened to our law makers there’d be bloody consequences.”
The Bulletin has been told the vehicle was located the following day at a Gold Coast car wash. The Queensland Police Service has been contacted for comment.
