Two more teens have been charged with stealing a luxury vehicle that was later crashed by a 13-year-old boy.
Police on Saturday said a 16-year-old boy had been charged with two counts each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count each of burglary and stealing.
“It will be alleged he was involved in stealing various items from a Carrara residence on April 5, including a Range Rover and Subaru XV,” a spokesman said.
He is due in Southport Childrens Court later this month.
A 14-year-old girl was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act for offences including burglary, enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The pair were not involved in the later crash.
It comes as the Bulletin revealed the 13-year-old boy, who is lucky to be alive after crashing the Range Rover at Ashmore about 6.35am on Thursday April 8, failed to show up to court to face charges over the incident.
He was initially taken to hospital in a critical condition after the crash but by the following morning his condition had improved.
The Bulletin has been told he had been released from hospital. However, legal sources did not know why he failed to show for Southport Children’s Court on Wednesday.
He has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary, receiving tainted property, unlicensed driving and careless driving.
It is unclear if a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Police on Saturday declined to say whether one had been issued.
The Bulletin applied to be in the courtroom while the case was being heard but was not given an opportunity to argue the application.
The boy is believed to be well-known to the police, but was not on bail at the time of last week’s crash. The car was taken from a gated community in Carrara.
The Bulletin has been told the boy told police prior to his condition deteriorating that he fell asleep at the wheel.
Blood was found on both sides of the car, which led police to initially believe there was a passenger.
Police ruled that theory out after extensive searches of nearby bushland.
Following his hospitalisation, the boy posted a video of him splattered with blood. It showed the mangled SUV.
The case is expected to return to the Children’s Court in the coming weeks.
