Police are closing in on a group of teens involved in countless break and enters over the past 48 hours across the Gold Coast in which four cars have been stolen.
The juveniles struck about 10pm on Sunday at Upper Coomera, stealing a light grey Hyundai Kona parked in a driveway. Matthew Doherty lives at the property, he said the vehicle belonged to his niece and he claims the criminals came prepared.
“Hyundai have said that the internal cameras and GPS were not just turned off but disabled,” Mr Doherty said.
“By the sound of it they’ve had some sort of digital scrambler.”
At about 2am on Wednesday morning the Hyundai was involved in a break and enter at Arundel. The youths swiped a set of keys for a family car from a home on Bernard Court. The Grey Haval SUV with New South Wales registration KTE-000 was spotted in Pacific Pines around 8am. A bank debit card that was inside the vehicle was then used in a transaction at the Coles in Arundel a short time later. Police have been to the business and collected CCTV.
The stolen Hyundai was also used in a break and enter at Runaway Bay where a Land Rover was taken on Tuesday night. Police are also investigating whether the group are behind a fourth vehicle theft at Riverlinks Boulevard, Hope Island on the same night. Anyone who has seen the teens or the vehicles is urged to contact police. Detectives are also appealing for dashcam or CCTV footage to assist with their investigations.
