Melbourne hoon Andrew Drew pleads guilty to inciting illegal street meets, reckless conduct

A sobbing Melbourne hoon who incited illegal street meets has kissed goodbye to his freedom and beloved bogan mobile.

Key Melbourne hoon's shocking street antics

A hoon ringleader who taunted cops and incited illegal street meets across Melbourne paid a mate to take the fall for his “mindless criminal activity”.

Andrew Drew, 23, was sentenced in the County Court on Tuesday to a minimum nine-month jail term after pleading guilty to rolled-up incitement and reckless conduct charges.

Drew came under the watchful eye of anti-hoon cops after his distinctive Holden Commodore was spotted at several illegal street meets on November 15 last year.

Drew performed burnouts and other dangerous moves at meets at Keysborough, Knoxfield and Dandenong South.

Drew hooned his car – which at times was draped with the Mexican flag – while hundreds of spectators watched and filmed his antics.

Some spectators also ran up to Drew’s car while he and another unknown hoon performed their illegal stunts in the smoke-filled streets.

Drew, who attached a Domino’s Pizza topper to his car, also had passengers who hung out of windows while they high-fived cheering spectators.

Dandenong High Risk Driving Crew members tracked down Drew and his distinctive Commodore – bearing plates ‘RN4MUK’ – in December.

Drew conspired with his then girlfriend Zara Lunney-Adams to have associate Caleb Cromarty nominate himself as the driver and throw police off the scent.

Drew said he needed someone to “take the fall” for his “skid bullshit”.

Lunney-Adams, who the prosecution termed “an active participant from start to finish”, transferred $1000 to patsy Cromarty.

Drew, who also pleaded guilty to attempt to pervert the course of justice and driving while disqualified, met with Cromarty to discuss the scheme.

But Cromarty crumbled hopelessly during his police interview and Drew, who was arrested in March, finally confessed to his crimes.

Investigators accessed Drew’s phone which revealed the Fast and Furious wannabe had been inciting illegal street meets across Melbourne.

Drew, via Snapchat, incited other hoon bogans to meet up for illegal street gatherings on ten occasions between March last year and February this year.

“Alright c--ts its that time of the week again, grab ya sets, grab ya 16 year old sluts and lets bring the good old days back,” Drew said.

“You know the drill no meet ups at servos don’t bring attention to us … If cops come block them … remember its us against them … if they follow you go on a hike.

“Protect ya mates if they’re changing (tyres) and stand ya f**kin ground … first spot will be sent out 9.29pm.

Drew also sent a message to Snapchat group ‘Nothing but Mexico’ prior to his November 15 antics.

“Alright you dumbc--ts lets see if c--ts really know how to throw a party in the dirty south you c--ts know the drill keep your phones in your pockets and block the roads.

“G the fuck up … dirty south sluts are not invited unless you open your legs … invite to Miss East and Mr North to come have a party in the dirty south … first spot at 9.11pm.

It’s understood Drew was fuelling a Melbourne hoon rivalry between the ‘Southeast Skids’ and ‘Northern Skids’.

Mr North is an alias for the hoon ringleader of Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

The hoons also worship Mexico as they perceive themselves as untouchable outlaws in a lawless frontier.

Drew taunted police in various other messages

“No more mother’s meetings … block the roads if the cops come … there is more of us than them … f--- the cops … don’t run like a girl’s dick.”

Drew also riled up the hoon squad for a big meet held in Tullamarine late last year.

“Let’s make this a big one,” Drew said.

“This is the last one for a while … take your plates and stay the f**k off the roads.”

Police were called to numerous hoon meets – some which had 200 drivers racing each other – that matched up with Drew’s Snapchat timeline.

Cops swamped hoons at Hallam, Dandenong South, Knoxfield, Chirnside Park, Rowville, Scoresby, Springvale, Tullamarine and Keysborough.

Judge John Carmody said the risk was heightened when the “other dancer”, meaning the unknown hoon, joined Drew in his illegal road escapades.

The defence submitted others at the street meets were “willing participants”.

“Yes, there’s no evidence of anyone being handcuffed and dragged there,” Judge Carmody said.

Drew, who has priors for driving offences and perjury, was done doing 30-35km/h over the speed limit in August this year.

“Clearly he has no regard for the criminal justice system,” the prosecution submitted.

Quiet sniggers could be heard from Drew’s supporters as his Snapchat incitement messages were read and hoon videos played during last week’s plea hearing.

However, those cheers turned to tears after Judge Carmody abruptly remanded Drew in custody.

Drew also sobbed and threw his hands on his head after an application to forfeit his beloved Commodore was unopposed by the defence.

: You’ve had three chances (on community correction orders) …,” Judge Carmody said.

“(Your offending was) mindless criminal activity … there was a risk to others of serious injury if not death.”

Judge Carmody jailed Drew for a maximum 16 months, ordered his hoon mobile be forfeited and ordered the Domino’s topper be destroyed.

Lunney-Adams, 20, and Cromarty, 21, – who both pleaded guilty to attempt to pervert the course of justice – were convicted and handed two-year community correction orders.
