GCDRU Livestream: Watch Surfers Paradise v Gold Coast Eagles

SURFERS Paradise will have redemption on the mind when it hosts its original club rivals Gold Coast Eagles on Ladies Day. Tune in live from 3.15pm.

Replay: Gold Coast District Rugby Union live - Surfers Paradise vs Gold Coast Eagles

Surfers Paradise have come back from the brink to defeat the old enemy, Gold Coast Eagles, 19-15 with a try in the final minutes to steal back a win.

Controversy reigned throughout the match after an alleged eye gouge on an Eagles front rower sparked a scuffle in the 30th minute.

The alleged victim was red carded for punching, he claims in retaliation, granting Surfers a numbers advantage in the grudge match.

Ill-discipline cost the Dolphins in the second half when they lost two players to yellow cards, allowing Eagles to cross for two tries to lead 12-5 in the 50th minute.

When full numbers were restored Surfers took back control and landed the knockout blow in the 76th minute.

Eagles had one last roll of the dice in final play but knocked on, bringing about full-time.

The Eagles have launched a protest of the result, accusing Surfers Paradise of fielding an ineligible player on their bench.

More to come.

SURFERS Paradise will have redemption on the mind when it hosts its original club rivals Gold Coast Eagles on Ladies Day.

Not only will Surfers be out to avenge its shock loss to Eagles from earlier in the season, but to wipe clean the memories of last week’s first- half capitulation to Nerang.

The eyes of the competition were on Surfers in the Bulletin’s live-streamed game of the round but a calamitous first 30 minutes condemned it to defeat by halftime.

On Saturday, in front of their own Ladies Day crowd, the Dolphins have a chance to redeem themselves against an old foe – and pick up some silverware as they do it.

“There will definitely be better results this week,” head coach Rangi Joseph said.

“Last week they gave the team (Nerang) no respect defensively, which came back and bites you on the a***.

“Saturday is Ladies Day and the Barry Moon Cup is up for grabs, so it’s a very special day for both clubs.

“It’s a big day for our boys to go out there and produce something that’s worthy of our partners and the ladies in our lives.

“We’re excited to see it online because we have families back home in New Zealand who are logging on to watch.”

Eagles coach Jai Johnson said his side was prepared to spoil the party and defend the Barry Moon trophy.

“We’ve watched their videos from last week and identified some opportunities from their game,” Johnson said.

“We’re certainly looking to attack them through the middle but I don’t know if their performance from last week will truly tell.

“This week they’ll be better as it’s their Ladies Day and you never know who they’ll roll out to play.”

Surfers sits two points outside the top four, with Eagles 10 points outside.

A win is crucial for the Eagles to draw closer to leapfrogging their rivals.

Second-placed Nerang will visit third-placed Helensvale for a match that could shake up the top of the table.

Alleygators and Knights will host Crushers and Pirates respectively.
