A Gold Coast rugby union star who was slapped with a doping ban spanning two years and nine months will be eligible to play in 2025 when his suspension ends on January 19.

Corbin Kiernan, who represented the Bond University Bull Sharks in the Queensland Premier Rugby and played one season in France’s Pro Division 2 competition for Biarritz, was found to have traces of the drug Ibutamoren in his system as well as traces of the prohibited substance BPC-157.

Ibutamoren is listed as Class S2 (Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors, Related Substances and Mimetics) under the World Anti-Doping Code – International Standard – Prohibited List – 2022 (Prohibited List 2022) and is prohibited at all times.

The substance BPC-157 is listed under Class S0 (Non-Approved Substances).

Kiernan’s sanction formally commenced on the date of original testing, being April 19, 2022.

The Keebra Park alum was banned from any and all sports that have a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy until January 19, 2025.

While he is eligible to return, Kiernan has not yet signed with any Queensland Premier Rugby club or team.

Queensland Rugby Union has not received any player registration as at January 8.

A Bond University spokesperson said the former player, who was never enrolled as a student, had not made attempts to rejoin the Bull Sharks for 2025 and the club has not been in contract talks with him.

Kiernan was reached for comment but has not provided a response as to his plans for the 2025 season.
