GOLD Coast Turf Club powerbrokers are making moves to make the Pink Ribbon Cup race day a metropolitan meeting as early as next year.
The annual event, held on Saturday, was hailed a success by GCTC CEO Steve Lines with around 5000 people attending and an expected $100,000 raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The club wants to increase the number of metropolitan meetings it hosts per season to around 10 in the coming years and the Pink Ribbon Cup is at the top of their wish list when it comes to race days they want to elevate.
Lines hoped the metropolitan status would increase crowd numbers to around 8000, helping bolster the funds raised on a day that is already backed by the likes of Sky Racing.
“Our goal is to make it a metro Saturday meeting,” Lines said.
“It’s always been on our radar to do that.

“We think that will help us raise more funds and get even more support for the day.
“We have a major function as part of the day and other things in the events centre and the Dome with auctions and raffles with all the funds going towards the National Breast Cancer Foundation.”
Racing Queensland CEO Brendan Parnell attended the meeting and Lines said the governing body had already indicated they were eager to support the move to metropolitan status.
