IF all horses were like Nothing Needed then Michael Costa says training would be an easy gig.
Costa is hoping to celebrate his third win with the consistent four-year-old mare who is the $3.30 favourite for today’s Pink Ribbon Cup (1400m) at Gold Coast.
It’s been a successful second preparation under Costa for Nothing Needed so far with a win first-up in a Class 1 followed by two second-place finishes at Lismore in a Class 2 and Gold Coast in a Benchmark 68.

“She is ultra-consistent,” Costa said as the horse prepares to jump from alley four with jockey Ryan Plumb in the saddle.
“We have found a nice race if she can run up to any of her starts early in the prep then she should be right in the pointy end of it.”
Nothing Needed arrived at Costa’s stable at the end of last year as a maiden after starting her career with his good friend and southern trainer Bjorn Baker.
Costa said he hadn’t made any wild changes to the way Nothing Needed is trained and has enjoyed working with the improving horse.
“She is actually a very straightforward horse,” Costa said.
“She eats, moves well and breathes well. If all horses were this easy it would be a very easy job. There has been no changes. We are placing her right and keeping her happy.”
Costa said the stable would chase another couple of wins for Nothing Needed before eyeing off a race in Brisbane for a horse that will likely continue to suit races between 1400m and 1600m.
Costa also has $5 favourite Miss Gem set to run in the Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate (1200m) who be making her debut at the races after four trials.
