Playing with 12 men for 20 minutes as the Open Boys’ Titans Cup hung in the balance galvanised Keebra Park to a 18-0 thumping of Marsden State High in the final.

Keebra entered the half-time break ahead 4-0 after an early score to Jeremaiah Tamepo but his send-off one minute into the second half threatened to allow Marsden back into the game.

Keebra rallied behind the hard-charging second-rower Braydon Manson to pull away from their opponents with three decisive tries.

Fullback Elijah Lui and Manson scored from long-range strikes before Tamepo’s second score on the right edge sealed the final for Keebra Park’s second division side.

Not even the loss of five-eighth Jaxen Yow to aother send-off could dent Keebra’s defence in a shut-out win.

Maytom, the side’s captain, said patience was the key to their win.

“It was a heaps good feeling when the hooter went off at the end and the win was in our hands,” Maytom said.

“At the halftime break we spoke about being patient and we had the wind behind us in the second half.

“We have good strike on the edges and good push through the middle, so we knew we had some points in us.”

Coach James Chapman said he couldn’t single out any one player in an excellent team performance.

He praised the team’s cohesion after a season of players moving up to the top grade Langer Cup side and back down again.

Keebra opened the scoring late in the first half when Manson broke the line, flick passing to Langer Cup utility Jeremaiah Tamepo for the only score of the half.

There were missed opportunities when Marsden’s Sylus I’iga was sent for 10 minutes earlier in the half but Keebra failed to capitalise.

That position was reversed in the second half when Tamepo was sent from the field for a shoulder charge.

Keebra threw caution to the wind with a series of linebreaks capped off by excellent support play.

Lui’s try followed a Haze Tai Rakena break which went through two pairs of hands before the fullback sidestepped the final defender to score.

Braydon Manson broke off for a 40 metre runaway try before Tamepo stretched out through a goalline tackle to slam the ball down for the clincher.
