THE Gold Coast is full of outstanding rugby league talent. On Wednesday night, two recent Keebra Park students will make their State of Origin debuts in David Fifita and Payne Haas.
The Bulletin has looked far and wide across the city to come up with 10 names to keep an eye on as possible future Origin players.
We reveal the first five names below, with part two to be published on Wednesday.
Reece Walsh
Age: 16
School: Keebra Park State High School
Position: Fullback
Keebra coach Glen Campbell says:
“Reece has been a bit of a star fullback all the way through. He’s an exciting talent who can turn a game. His tryscoring ability is amazing.”
Millie Boyle
Age: 21
Club: Burleigh Bears
Position: Front-row
Burleigh women’s coach Tahnee Norris says:
“She’s a beast. She’s just so super strong and she’s ridiculously fit for a front-rower.”
Juwan Compain
Age: 18
Club: Tweed Seagulls/Titans Elite Development Squad
Position: Second-row
Tweed Intrust Super Cup coach Ben Woolf says:
“He’s done a bit of training with our Queensland Cup side and done a good job when he’s come in. He’s a very aggressive player and he’s good on his feet as well.
COMPAIN: WHY I CHOSE TITANS OVER BRONCOS
Tarryn Aiken
Age: 19
Club: Tweed Seagulls
Position: Five-eighth/halfback
Tweed women’s coach Kelvin Wright says:
“Tarryn is a great competitor, extremely talented and is great on her feet. To me, the big one is her pass selection and as a halfback, being able to make other players around her look better.”
Josh Bevan
Age: 17
School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High School
Position: Lock
PBC coach Aaron Zimmerle says:
“Josh is perpetual in a game and will carry tough under the ruck or bounce over and ballplay through the middle third of the field. His game sense is as good as his engine and that makes him a non-stop 80-minute player. Combine that with his flat back under the ball tackling and he has the special ability to rattle the ribs of much bigger opponents.”
