Part two: 10 emerging Gold Coast rugby league talents who one day could play State of Origin

Check out the second part of our 10-name list of talented up-and-coming Gold Coasters who could one day feature on the State of Origin stage.

THE Gold Coast is full of outstanding rugby league talent. On Wednesday night, two recent Keebra Park students will make their State of Origin debuts in David Fifita and Payne Haas.

The Bulletin has looked far and wide across the city to come up with 10 names to keep an eye on as possible future Origin players.

We revealed the first five names in part one on Tuesday; now here below are second five names to watch out for.

Age: 18

School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High School

Position: Second-row

PBC coach Aaron Zimmerle says:

“With great line running and late feet at the line he is incredibly hard to stop when he runs to bust, but he combines that with soft hands that allow him to play both before and through the line. Origin players though are defined by their toughness, and Brendan is one of the hardest hitting schoolboys I have ever seen. The only player I can compare him to would be Tonie Carroll, for the speed and ease of contact.”

Jessika Elliston

Age: 21

Club: Tweed Seagulls

Position: Second-row

Tweed women’s coach Kelvin Wright says:

“Jessika’s work ethic and competitiveness gets her a long way and her willingness to learn the game to get better. For me, that’s what is taking her to the next level so quickly and on the field it’s the lines she runs and her willingness to work for other people around her.”

Age: 17

School: Keebra Park State High School

Position: Wing

Keebra coach Glen Campbell says:

“He has come across from Western Australia and chanced his hand here at Keebra Park. He’s listening and learning. He’s a big, robust winger who is about 95kg at the moment and he has really risen to the occasion.”

Burleigh women’s coach Tahnee Norris says:

“She is one to look out for and in probably a couple of different roles. She was picked in that Queensland 18s team. She has been playing fullback for us but is just as capable in the halves.”
