SHE is making waves in her maiden taste of rugby league but Tweed second-rower Jessika Elliston admits she’s not ready to put all of her eggs in the 13-a-side basket just yet.

Elliston captained Bond University in the Aon Uni Sevens Series last year and will again play for the Bull Sharks in 2019.

“Aon is still definitely on the cards. I am doing training for both at the moment,” she said.

“I don’t know if I’m ready to leave sevens yet but league has definitely crept up, I really enjoy it.”

The 21-year-old hairdresser has impressed Seagulls coach Kelvin Wright and won players’ player in their last start loss to Wests Brisbane.

Known as a character around Piggabeen Sports Complex, Elliston is on a steep learning curve to get her head around league’s intricacies such as the play the ball.

“I learnt that very quickly – I think I got penalised my first game a couple of times,” she laughed.

“I think my new one is offside, having to actually go back 10m (each tackle in defence).”

Tweed and four-time defending premiers Burleigh will square off in the maiden SEQ division one Gold Coast derby on Sunday afternoon at Pizzey Park.

“We all want to say we’re going to smash them but I think being realistic, they are such a strong team,” Elliston said.

“Tahnee (Norris, Bears coach) has taught them so much. Being a new team, if we hit our goals and leave the field knowing we did whatever we could and supported each other as a team, I reckon we will be quite happy, win or lose.

“Burleigh is definitely a really strong side and it will just be cool to see how they play.”
