IT’S been 15 years between drinks, but Surfers Paradise will finally get the chance to add another premiership to their trophy cabinet after qualifying for the QAFL grand final on Saturday.
The Demons were clinical in their preliminary final defeat of Morningside, piling on seven goals to three in the first quarter to establish a 25 point quarter time margin before eventually run out 14.14-98 to 7.9-51 winners.

After defeating the Panthers by 45 points two weeks ago in the qualifying final, Surfers coach Brad Moore said he was impressed by his chargers ability to withstand the early pressure applied by their desperate opponents.
“It was a much tighter start than a few weeks ago but I was really proud of the boys and the way they refused to drop their intensity and effort,” he said.
“It’s really important, especially in finals to get those good starts because it’s hard to try and chase down opposition in finals.
“It was a solid four quarter performance once we were able to withstand the initial challenge.”
The last time the Demons featured in a grand final was back in 2004 when Surfers lost the AFLSQ division one decider to the Strathpine Swans.
Surfers will now face back-to-back defending premiers the Palm Beach Currumbin but Moore is adamant the challenge is not insurmountable despite going down to the Lions by 22 points in week two of finals.
The Demons are the sole team to defeat the Lions so far in 2019 after their round 18, 89-25 victory.
“There’s no doubt that Palm Beach Currumbin are the team to beat and they’ve got the past experience of those grand finals but we’ve been building to get an opportunity like this and we’ve got nothing to lose,” he said.
“We’re very confident that we can play a brand of football that can challenge anyone.
“I don’t think we were that far off a few weeks ago so we’re fully confident that we can perform well.”

As if a premiership isn’t enough, Surfers will also be motivated by their desire to send retiring veteran Dan Green out a premiership player after the 32-year-old kicked six goals in a best on ground performance against Morningside.
“He now finally gets to play in a grand final in his last game of his career,” Moore said.
“He’s a stalwart and the boys will get around him next week.”
Moore also lauded the impact of ruckmen Matt Green and Thompson Smith who nullified the impact of Panthers ruck threats Peter Mollison and Brad Hodge.
“They were undersized against arguably the best ruck combination in the competition but I think they came out on top,” he said.
