CATS NEED SKIPPER FIRING

CAPTAIN Kyle Brockley underlined his importance to Broadbeach Robina on Saturday, making 46 and taking 3-35 in the Cats’ two-run win over Palm Beach Currumbin.

It was his best all-round performance of the season and showed he is crucial to Broadbeach’s hopes of back-to-back Kookaburra Cup crowns.

DOLPHINS MAY HAVE COMP’S BEST ATTACK

GOLD Coast’s bowlers again did the job in Saturday’s Queensland Premier Cricket battle with Redlands, fighting back from a lacklustre start to restrict the Tigers to 224.

Quicks Josh Kann and Liam Hope-Shackley, and spinners Matt Kuhnemann and Hugo Burdon all claimed multiple scalps to highlight the all-round potency of the Dolphins attack.

HURRICANES’ SEASON IN THE BALANCE

THE Kookaburra Cup season may only be eight weeks old but Alberton Ormeau are already fighting to keep their top-four hopes alive.

Minor premiers and grand finalists last season, the Hurricanes slumped to their sixth defeat in as many games this season with a 117-run loss to Southport Labrador on Saturday.

It leaves them a whopping 25 points adrift of fourth-placed Coomera Hope Island.

WITH 432 runs at 86.40 - including three centuries - and 11 wickets at 26.27 this season, Gold Coast all-rounder Liam Hope-Shackley is banging down the door to higher honours.

The 26-year-old shone again with 3-47 against Redlands on Saturday and will have a shot at another big score in the run chase this weekend.

SPIRIT OF CRICKET ALIVE AND WELL

THE shock death of Queens third-grader Vikas Malhotra on Saturday was a tragedy but it also served as a reminder of cricket’s unifying powers.

Players from the opposing Surfers Paradise side did all they could to help and while it may not have been enough to save Malhotra’s life, their efforts did not go unnoticed.
