Few batsman in the history of cricket have had the honour of scoring a century and a duck in the same game. Dolphins ace Liam Hope-Shackley has now done both in a single day.

Gold Coast Dolphins ace Liam Hope-Shackley has achieved one of cricket’s rarest feats, scoring both a century and a duck on the same day of play.
The 26-year-old batsman needed six runs to reach his third century of the season after blasting 94 not-out in last week’s first innings of a two-day match against Norths.
Hope-Shackley raised the bat with a boundary but threw his wicket away the very next ball, leaving the matchwinning runs to be hit by Hugo Burdon.
The Dolphins pursuit of bonus points was then dealt a blow when a lower order collapse brought Norths back into bat.
The home side declared at 2/163 after 31 overs, leaving the Dolphins 50 runs to chase in 24 balls.
Hope-Shackley returned to the crease with a mission to blast his side to a comprehensive win but instead suffered one of cricket’s rarest humiliations.
“I went in there looking to tee off, but I missed one and then got out LBW (for zero),” the first-innings centurion said.
“I’ve probably had a day where I scored 100 and I felt disappointed at the end of it, which is quite a strange feeling.
“It’s just what it was, (the game situation meant I was) trying to hit every ball for six.
“I’ve actually done it before a few years ago, hitting a century and a duck in the same game.
“It brings you back to earth.”
The Dolphins would come agonisingly close to chasing down the total despite losing both openers for zero.
Lewin Maladay, Joshua Kann and Will Chapples dragged the Dolphins’ score to 46 with one ball to play but were left empty-handed when Chapples was caught out gunning for the fence and the bonus point win.
Hope-Shackley’s Dolphins will be scratching their heads at how a golden opportunity to seize potentially critical bonus points slipped through their hands.
