MUDGEERABA Nerang are assembling a squad capable of an immediate Kookaburra Cup premiership assault after adding Gold Coast Dolphins duo Josh Nelson and Mitch Daly to their ranks.
Having already lured batsman Kevin Chapman and all-rounder Howard Biddle away from Bill Pippen Oval, the Bushmen have secured the services of Dolphins clubmates Nelson and Daly for 2019-20.
The 26-year-olds, a top-order batsman and wicketkeeper respectively, are Mudgeeraba juniors and have played for the club sporadically in recent seasons amid Dolphins commitments.
KANN SETS SIGHTS ON NATIONAL STAGE
Nelson amassed 585 second-grade runs at 32.5 last season, while Daly enjoyed a breakout Queensland Premier Cricket campaign after being called into the top grade to cover for injured gloveman Lewin Maladay.
In addition to 421 runs at an average of 24, he collected 22 dismissals in 18 games.
With Chapman also a Mudgeeraba product, club president Matthew Gill said having the Dolphins quartet in Bushmen colours next season was a pleasant surprise.
FORMER TEST STAR JOINS DOLPHINS RANKS
“It’s amazing getting the four boys back from the Dolphins, it’s not something we expected. Their personal circumstances have changed and they’re good mates and they want to play together,” Gill said.
A popular figure at the Dolphins, Daly will remain on the club’s committee next season.
TITLE-WINNING COACH TO SHUN CLUBS’ INTEREST
Despite one of the youngest first grade squads on the Coast, Mudgeeraba finished seventh in last season’s Kookaburra Cup.
