Langer Reserves round 4 Players of the Week highlighted here

The Langer Reserves round 4 Players of the Week include a promising project player from Ipswich SHS and two boys with family links to the NRL from Redcliffe and PBC SHS.

Ipswich SHS were housing a wildcard rugby league talent who has his L-plates, but who is improving as each week passes.

Tall, athletic winger Sione Feketi played left wing in Ipswich’s 22-12 Langer Reserves win over an ever trying Redcliffe SHS on Wednesday.

He is a raw talent, but by this time next season don’t be surprised to see this youngster pressing for Langer Trophy honours.

Feketi arrived at Ipswich SHS last year from Sydney and has benefited from the school’s rugby league program where he is tutored by coaches like Joshua Bretherton, Jonathan Dore and Shane Harris.

What the Ipswich teachers cannot install in Kefeti is the will that comes from within, and Feketi’s rousing charges from the back end of the field showed plenty of bravery.

But he had plenty of skill, including an eye-catching ankle high collection of a wayward pass.

Feketi was one of the best players in round 4 of the Langer Reserves, but there were plenty more including two relatives of NRL guns.

Below we feature Beau Molo, whose uncles are Francis (Origin rep) and Michael Molo (both St George Illawarra), and Josiah Fa’aoso whose uncle is Richie (186 NRL games).

Ipswich SHS v Redcliffe SHS

Clement Karauti (Ipswich SHS)

Clement Karauti roared off the bench midway through the first half to give his side the breathing space they needed to defeat a persistent Redcliffe SHS outfit.

Aside from giving Ipswich plenty of run from the ruck, he scored two strong individual tries to give his side the 10 point winning margin.

Beau Molo (Redcliffe SHS)

Redcliffe did not have a mortgage on good players as the Eagles bravely clung hard to their rivals jerseys to hold Ipswich to a 22-12 win.

And one of the best players on the field was edge forward Beau Molo playing left second rower whose effort on that side of the field with his centre Gus Folau was one of the highlights.

Molo accelerated into the defence and ran good lines and should have been given the chance to score a late try. He also defended strongly and has considerable potential.

Berakah Tuifaasisina (Ipswich SHS)

One of the reasons Ipswich hooker Clement Karauti came into the game was because of the work of his middle forwards.

In rotation James Pau and Berakah Tuifaasisina started, and were supported by Nephi Uilavavi-Pita and Lorenzo Oliva.

Berakah Tuifaasisina, a Queensland Reds Under-16s selection last spring, was an outstanding mobile prop who angled his runs into contact and played the ball quickly.

Gus Folau (Redcliffe SHS)

Folau and his second row buddy Beau Molo, mentioned earlier, kept turning up, time and again, with brave running and willing defence. There was one set of six in the game where Molo and Folau took two runs each. Folau kept coming hard at his rivals, even when he was peeled backwards.

It was gutsy stuff from him, Molo and winger Hollan Poto and is Exhibit A why the Redcliffe SHS Langer seniors were going well - the performance of people like Folau highlights the school’s depth.

James Pau (Ipswich SHS)

Prop James Pau was outstanding with his energy, leg drive and effort around the ruck. But he stood out from the pack with his enthusiasm chasing his halves clearing kicks.

Several times he was the first one on the scene to help make the tackle and pin Redcliffe.

Jackson Carmody, Jackson Sambrooks (Redcliffe SHS)

One of the great things about rugby league is it is a game for all shapes and sizes, and in the land of the giants it is a pleasure seeing the efforts of little men like the Redcliffe captain and hooker, Jackson Carmody, and halfback Jack Sambrooks. Carmody’s busy performance included a snappy individual try.

Palm Beach Currumbin defeated Caloundra SHS

Dylan Watkins (PBC SHS)

An exciting fullback, Watkins produced a dominant display from No. 1, including a hattrick in his side’s 40-4 triumph over Caloundra.

Marley Igasan (PBC SHS)

The Nerang Roosters second-row or lock was a chief enforcer in the Reds’ forward pack, and looked really strong in both attack and defence.

Josiah Fa’aoso (PBC SHS)

The young prop played a great game and was another standout in PBC’s forward pack, with his go-forward in particular grabbing attention. He is the nephew of former NRL player Richie

Keebra Park SHS v Marsden SHS

Gab Salelea (Keebra Park)

Salela spent the last two weeks playing hooker off the bench for the Langer Trophy side, helping out because of injury to teammates. He came back to Langer Reserve level and looked a class above playing lock. Has great leg speed through the middle and is a very strong defender.

Santino Pekepo-Tevaga (Keebra Park).

The towering winger has also played some Langer Trophy football this year and his experience showed in the second half when he got the side on the front foot with some strong carries out of his own end.

Kalani Patu (Keebra Park)

The Titans contracted second rower was again hard to handle in his second game back from a broken foot. He will continue to push for selection in the Langer Trophy team with his brother Carsen, the TSS old boy, getting him ready for the rigours in the gym.

Anthony Solomon (Marsden SHS)

The tall, mobile No.13 led the charge for his side as the lynch point in defence and a ball playing middle that acted as a second halfback.

Quinn Timperon (Marsden SHS)

What a month of Langer Reserves football this kid has had.

Against Redcliffe SHS in round 1 left winger Quinn Timperon showed glimpses of magic and that was there for all to play at the Southport Tigers club where he scored a sensational try diving for a cross field kick.

Take a bow five-eighth Khan Pokere for the deft placement.

Wavell SHS and Mabel Park SHS drew 22-all

Dominic Ierome (Mabel Park SHS)

In a close one with Wavell SHS, athletic No.13 Dominic Ierome was a late game wonder, paving the way for two crucial tries in the final 15 minutes with two cracking carries.

Down 16-10, Mabel needed some magic and Ierome produced two stellar linebreaks through the middle to swing momentum.

His teammates Evanda Tofilau (prop) and right centre Tipene Cooley crashed over to make it 22-16 in the blink of an eye.

Titus Marsden (Mabel Park SHS)

It is the same every week for Mabel playmaker Titus Marsden.

A cool, calm and collected customer, Titus Marsden’s biggest attacking weapon is his kicking game, which was ever so dangerous at Langlands on Wednesday.

But Marsden was also a crafty ball playing half who creates gaps with his elusive game style.

Gideon Tanielu (Mabel Park SHS)

Mabel have Jackson Howe and Natu Leota in the top team and two exceptional Reserves halves in Titus Marsden and Gideon Tanielu - two players who would not look out of place in the top competition.

Tanielu is another classy conductor, who on Wednesday made an impact with his defence where he slowed down the play the ball while on attack being Mabel’s chief orchestrator.

Motootua Kia and Bailey Downs (Mabel Park SHS)

Motootua Kia.

Indeed Mabel Park played well enough to win this one and it was because of the tireless efforts of Samoan man mountain Motootua Kia and his energetic edge forward Bailey Downs.

Both were full of energy. Kia’s barnstorming carries through the middle allowed Tanielu and Marsden to play freely and Downs angled his runs brilliantly and powered through contact.

Xander Henaway (Wavell SHS)

Xander Henaway.

Like Marsden (mentioned above), Wavell SHS halfback Xander Henaway has been having a superb season.

The team’s goalkicker, general play kicker, attacking kicker and has deceptive speed which saw him bound over for a great try in Wednesday’s thriller.

Down 22-16, Henaway put in a wobbly bomb which catapulted downward near the goaline which was fumbled by a Mabel player and scored by the Warriors.

Henaway, after that match-tying assist off his right boot, slotted the conversion from in front to steal a draw on full-time.

Sonny Herdegen (Wavell SHS)

In the match after, Sonny’s older brother Zac was instrumental with his kicking and running game.

But before that thriller, won 24-18 by Mabel, hooker Sonny was directing traffic from the ruck.

He scored an important try out of dummyhalf to keep Wavell within an arms reach.
