KEEBRA Park coach Glen Campbell didn’t need to say much to his troops following Tuesday night’s 26-12 loss to Wavell State High.
“They knew they didn’t play well. We didn’t deserve to win,” Campbell said.
Coming off comfortable wins over St Mary’s College and Ipswich State High in their previous two outings, Keebra entered the Round 3 Allan Langer Cup battle riding a wave of confidence.
But they quickly crashed back to earth as the hosts crossed twice early to race to a 10-0 lead.
Keebra hit back to make it 10-6 at halftime following a barnstorming try from backrower Siaosi Tonga, before Wavell restored their 10-point buffer shortly after the break.

Interchange forward TJ Smart then got Keebra back into the contest once more with a brilliant solo effort close to the line, but the visitors’ hopes were snuffed out when Wavell scored their fourth try soon afterwards to make it 20-12.
A late try then put the icing on the cake for Wavell, leaving Campbell and his charges to regroup for next Wednesday’s clash with a Marsden outfit that knocked them out in last year’s semi final.
“We had the opportunities (against Wavell) and the boys were disappointed. We didn’t get to our game plan like we’d like to (but) we took a lot out of the game,” Campbell said.
“I have spoken to my players about consistency and little things they can fix in their game. It’s (about) getting the basics right and executing the way we know we can play.
“We have definitely got a talented football side but we will go back to training and focus on our strong points. Marsden have got a few very good players and they will need to be contained.”

Palm Beach Currumbin’s two-game winning streak also came to an end on Tuesday with a surprise 26-6 loss away to Ipswich State High.
The Keebra and PBC games were among the first to be livestreamed as part of the Bulletin’s new partnership with Queensland School Sport Rugby League to televise the top schoolboy competition in the state.
