South East Queensland family’s work to make an impact on Supercars at Gold Coast 600
Four men, all family, working in a humble South East Queensland garage through all hours of the night on a car. It’s not the glamourous life associated with some of the biggest Supercars teams with endless resources but it’s what this family is doing to achieve their dream of making an impact in the sport.

FAMILY bonds are driving the region’s newest Supercar wildcards who will make their debut at their home race on the Gold Coast this week.
The Kostecki Brothers Racing team, based just outside the Gold Coast in Meadowbrook, will feature prominently in the Gold Coast 600 with cousins Brodie, 21, and Jake, 19, Kostecki having been given wildcard entries for Enduro Cup races Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 600 and Sandown 500.

The Gold Coast 600’s youngest pairing are also the most hands on of the teams. The small crew don’t have the manpower or resources of the big factory teams, meaning everyone has to pitch in.
Brodie said it heightened their hunger to succeed and fast-tracked their knowledge and experience of the engine that is under them.
“When you’re in the shop at 10pm and struggling with something, knowing you are coming up to an event pushes you along,” Brodie Kostecki said after moving up to the main series from Super2.
“There are only four of us in the workshop back home in Queensland so it’s all hands on deck getting it all done and now seeing it in action is a special feeling.
“All the hard work that goes in behind the scenes will pay off so we will keep working at it.
“Understanding how the car works and all of us putting pit together has given us an understanding of how everything works and how much effort goes into it. If it breaks we fix it.”
THE NIGHTMARE SLADE CAN’T WAKE UP FROM
Both brothers were forced to work overtime when Jake found the wall in practice at Bathurst, picking up the tools to help ensure the car was ready for the weekend.
Born and raised in Western Australia, the Kostecki’s will now take on the “concrete canyon” at Surfers Paradise.
“I don’t know a whole lot about the track but I’ve seen it a lot on T.V and I’ve seen videos of it,” Jake Kostecki said.

It looks hairy from the outside but we will get a few practice laps before the race.
“It’s a concrete jungle so you have to minimise your mistakes because when you do make them it’s usually pretty bad.”
