Cameron Waters spars with 10-time world Muay Thai kickboxing champion John Wayne Parr ahead of Gold Coast 600

CHAZ Mostert will have added incentive to avoid a Gold Coast 600 collision with Supercars teammate Cameron Waters who is now equipped with some new moves learnt from 10-time world kickboxing champion John Wayne Parr.

Mostert and Waters are yet to discuss in depth the Bathurst 1000 incident that took both their cars out of the race on lap 123 or 161 on October 13 when the former botched his attempt at overtaking his fellow Tickford Racing car.

Waters stopped short of challenging Mostert to get into the ring with him but said Mostert should “watch out” in jest while sparring with Wayne Parr at the Boonchu Gym at Burleigh Heads on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old said he was a regular in the ring, with boxing an outlet he used for fitness and to move on from racing frustrations. He has been in the ring a fair bit since Bathurst.

“I really enjoy the fitness side of it and I like kickboxing, that’s an outlet for me to put racing stuff behind me so it’s great to deal with some situations.

“I wouldn’t say I use it for venting, more so to try and move on.”

Waters said Mostert apologised to him in the immediate aftermath of the Bathurst crash but conceded it was too raw for him at the time to talk it out.

“He briefly spoke to me after the race when he was leaving the circuit,” Waters said.

“We haven’t really spoken much.

“At the time it was pretty raw with my emotions. There are no words he could have said to fix it but he was man enough to apologise.

“We are going to talk about it in due course.”

Waters had qualified third on the grid for the Bathurst 1000 but now sits in 20th in the Enduro Cup after crashing out.

The Gold Coast 600 is the second event of the Cup and the unforgiving street circuit has Waters confident he can move up the rankings quickly with good performances in Saturday and Sunday’s races.
