WILL Davison says winning the Gold Coast 600 alongside brother Alex would top anything he has done in his racing career before.
Davison said this year’s Gold Coast 600 will offer the greatest opportunity for the brothers to celebrate a win in their home city together on the back of the strong form of the Ford Mustang driver in 2019.
“It’s our best shot and we are pretty pumped about that,” Davison said as he prepares to race alongside co-driver Alex.

“The team and the car and my form coming in, it’s certainly the best position I have been in coming in to the endure events since probably 2013 when I was previously with this team and particularly with my brother, this is our fourth year together.
“Last year we took a sword to a gun fight really. We didn’t have much to play with.
“Being brothers it adds a whole new meaning and element but just being competitive at this level is a huge achievement.
“It would be an amazing story but we just love winning and doing well.
“It’s why we love the sport and its very tough at this level. I have stood on the top step at Bathurst a couple of times (2009, 2016) and I’ve won the Gold Coast 600 (2012).
“I would kill to do it again but I’d kill to give my brother the opportunity because he is a great driver and probably didn’t have quite the same opportunities as I had over the years.
THE NIGHTMARE SLADE CAN’T WAKE UP FROM
“I’d love to be able to let him show what he can do and I think he will be able to do this year in the car.
“If we could achieve that together it would top anything else I’ve ever done in the sport.”
Davison is relishing a career resurgence this year. The 37-year-old’s career was at a crossroad in 2017 before joining 23Red Racing from Tekno Autosports for 2018 where the independent team struggled to make an impact.
But they partnered with Tickford Racing this year and the improved resources has enabled Davison to be competitive again.
“That 2017 year was tough. Once you’re are out of the big organisations, it’s very commercial dependent and there was a brief period there where it looked like a couple of the options were drying up,” Davison said.
“It was always going to be tough in 2018 but it was learning about what we required to step it up in a very short space of time.

“We have taken the team up to a whole new level. Now I feel like I’m showing what I’m capable of again which I showed for many years in the early days.
“I wasn’t sure at the end of 2017 that I was going to get another opportunity in another front running team.
“Here I am and I’m just trying to grab the opportunity with both hands and have a good couple of years before the career is over.
“I still feel like I’m driving really well so I’m cherishing it and trying to lap up the opportunity because it’s a tough gig at the moment but I’m in a really good position.”
