Gen Blue U15 squad named ahead of Queensland Reds Academy game on October 9

These teens showed “amazing’’ skills to crack the Gen Blue U15 squad but selectors still need to see more if they are to crack the team to take on their Queensland Red opposites.

The youngest team at the Gen Blue Cup won every game on the weekend and have now been rewarded with six of their players forcing their way into a Gen Blue U15 squad selector and Waratahs pathway co-ordinator Matt Evrard has described as “sensational’’.

The U15’s will take on the Queensland Reds Academy in Brisbane on October 9 with the squad trimmed down to 23 in a fortnight.

The match will shine the spotlight on some of the best young talent in the country.

“The future looks very good here (in NSW),’’ Evrard said after the squad naming.

Thesekids only had one training camp together last weekend but the standard of football was unbelievable.

“They were chip kicking, goal kicking, throwing their skill sets around. It was great to see. And the goal kicking was amazing.’’

Incredibly six players from the U14 teams who beat every U15 team at the weekend event at Camden made it into the squad despite being up to a year younger that their new squad mates.

Justice Taumoepeau, Iliyaz Viliamu, Hasani Bloomfield, Beau McKee, Ashton Large and Jarryd King all impressed at the event.

Players in the squad hail from across Sydney and surrounding areas with a high number coming from both the Central Coast and the northern beaches.

“The Central Coast has been a bit of a hot bed for rugby in the past few years,’' Evrard said.

“They had some really good results across the country championships and have some good players coming up.’’

‘Unbelievable talent’: selection headache for selectors

New Waratah gun’s battle off the field

The squad will meet this weekend for an induction and then a number of training sessions before the team to take on the Reds is named.

On October 9 the 16s and 19s Gen Blue teams will also be taking on their Queensland opposites.

Selectors have been monitoring performances at a range of events over the season - from school carnivals to state champs and regional events.

Waratahs head of talent Andrew Cleverley said the job of the selections was made even more difficult on Sunday due to the wealth of talent on display at the two-day Gen Blue Cup.
